About the artist
Alex Katz is considered the most important figurative painter of our time. His large-scale portraits are characterised by their bold and representational manner, a style he evolved during the 50s amidst the height of Abstract Expressionism. His large-sized reduced portraits expressing the new American way of life can be viewed as the first step towards Pop Art. A decade later he expanded his oeuvre by creating more stylised and expressive depictions of flowers, plants and treetops.
