Info

Rebecca Horn (1944 – 2024) was an internationally renowned German artist, known for her work in performance, sculpture, installation, film, and drawing. She is considered one of the most important figures in contemporary art.

Horn studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and gained recognition in the 1970s for her poetic performances, in which she extended the human body with mechanical objects—such as her famous “feather costumes” and “pencil masks.”

Her work often explores themes of isolation, transformation, and the connection between humans and machines.

From the 1980s onward, she increasingly focused on large-scale installations and kinetic sculptures. She also created experimental films, including “The Tap Dancer” (1978) and “Buster’s Bedroom” (1990).

Rebecca Horn’s works are part of major international collections, including the MoMA in New York and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She has received numerous awards, including the Kaiserring (1992) and the Praemium Imperiale (2010).
