The artist duo consists of the American artists Lori Nix (*1969) and Kathleen Gerber (*1967). They have already worked together for the previous series ‘The City’ and ‘Lost’ by Lori Nix. With their latest series ‘Empire’ (2017) they appear as the duo NIX/GERBER for the first time. With meticulous manual work the artists create post-apocalyptic miniature worlds, captured on camera with precisely adjusted exposure. The detailed photographs depict deserted places, decayed architectures and urban structures that are slowly reclaimed by nature. The aesthetic of color is based on paintings by the Romantic and the Hudson River School. Lori Nix’s and NIX/GERBER’s works are included in major private and public collections, such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, the El Paso Museum of Art in El Paso, Texas, the Microsoft Art Collection, the collection of the Museum Schloss Moyland in Bedburg-Hau, Germany, the Chase Manhattan Bank, the Dow Jones & Company and the HBC Global Art Collection in New York City, New York.
