Juan Muñoz (1953–2001) was a prominent Spanish sculptor and installation artist born in Madrid. He studied architecture but soon turned to visual arts. Muñoz is best known for his figurative sculptures and site-specific installations, which often depict scenes of human encounters and communication challenges. His works are characterized by a strong narrative element and a mysterious, sometimes unsettling atmosphere. He experimented with perspective and space, often involving the viewer interactively in his pieces. Muñoz received numerous international awards, and his works are exhibited in major museums worldwide. He died in Madrid in 2001 from cancer.
